KUS - Network

KUS - Network for education, social action, sports and culture is an NPO with a field of activities with extends the area of Austria, particularly its capital Vienna, with several arrangements taking place in other countries as well.

The actions of KUS - Network are based on four pillars: formal and non-formal learning opportunities develop young people in various skills. This development of skills includes measures concerning school and the employment market plus general personal development. Social offers encourage strategies of planning vita and support in times of crisis. Sport offers provide a basis in opposition to professional and academic daily routines and create a benefit for health and social skills. Cultural offers provide intercultural understanding and enhance personal activity.

The major target group is teenagers who are involved in the dual education system. KUS - Network offers are aimed at youth with regular apprenticeships and those who are in corporate situations, besides that, in the sense of social integration, all young people in Vienna are involved.

Education

KUS - Network organizes on- and off the job training and coordinates the program ‘Professional University Entrance Qualification - Apprenticeship plus Examination'. In this programme apprentices can pass this exam and be exempted costs. In the field of political education KUS sets courses in the areas of participation and school democracy.

In the spirit of education KUS - Network assists the in the ability to engage youth to take part in the democratic processes and the active shaping of their own professional development. Each year KUS offers a seminar for teamwork, project management and advances creative methods of presentation.

Social action

KUS - Network manages a socio-pedagogical framework at vocational schools in Vienna, which provides help for youth with problems concerning school, work life or private problems. The stress of this provision is prevention of violence and discrimination, consulting and providing information (job, health, pregnancy, family, etc.) and leisure time activities.

Sports

KUS - Network organizes different sport trainings and competitions for Viennese apprentices. Those cover a wide range of different sports (soccer, volleyball, swimming, athletics, climbing, martial arts, etc.) As vocational schools don´t provide sports in their combination of subjects, there is a major relevance for developing skills, also in a social role, and social task for students of vocational schools.

Culture

KUS - Network sets courses through its cultural intervention, boosts intercultural understanding and creativity. There are offers of creative-workshops, agency of theatre subscriptions, annual sound contests and there is also a culture price announced. Furthermore, there is an annual project competition, with the aim to advance creative methods of presentation.
